What’s in your credit report?

In your credit report, you’ll find your credit rating, more often referred to as a credit score. A credit score is a series of digits used by lenders, insurers, landlords, and potential employers to determine your risk profile and likelihood of defaulting. In other words, a lower credit score tells lenders that you have been irresponsible with finance in the past and so should be approached with caution.

Credit scores differ by bureau (Experian, TransUnion, XDS), but usually range from 300 to 800, or in XDS’ case, 1000. There are different scoring models used by different lenders. For instance, an auto lender would use Experian’s auto FICO scoring model as opposed to their mortgage one.

Your credit report lists all public records against you, like debt review, admin orders, and the like, as well as whether you have accounts in arrears or have defaulted. It also lists recent hard inquiries– inquiries lenders use to check your creditworthiness.

Credit Boost offers a soft credit check or soft inquiry. These inquiries don’t hurt your score and are only allowed to be seen by you. In addition, you can rest assured in the knowledge that your credit data is stored securely and handled with the utmost discretion.
